Green City Run – Women Edition

Saturday, 03 July 2021

Everyone can run a marathon - just not the entire distance at once! Run with us the first leg on the Green Marathon course in Zurich - without bib numbers, without rankings and at your own pace. Register today!
Moving together is fun, inspiring and allows new encounters. Run a stretch on the Green Marathon course together with our special guest, Chantal Cavin - for 5 or 10 kilometers.

With the GREEN CITY RUN - Women Edition we want to unite hobby joggers, casual walkers, sports club runners and running groups for a unique run on the most beautiful jogging route in the city of Zurich!

Run together with Chantal Cavin

After a sports accident, Chantal Cavin lost her sight from one day to the next at the age of 14. However, this never stopped her from pursuing her desire for movement and dedicating herself to sports.

Today, the athlete from Bern is one of the most successful physically challenged athletes in the world. She is a multiple world champion and world record holder in para swimming (50 m crawl, 100 m crawl), has participated in the Paralympics in Athens, Beijing and London, completed five Ironman and her best time in the marathon is 3 h 14 min.

Be inspired by her energy and seize the opportunity to run together with Chantal across the finish line.

Who can participate?

The Green City Run is for EVERYONE: what counts is the shared experience among friends, acquaintances, neighbors or work colleagues. The purpose of the Women Edition is to connect women who are interested and enthusiastic about running. Of course, men are also welcome to join in.

City Hunt Zurich

We were born to run. Since prehistoric times, we have been hunting - and we always came back together in our group. Do you still have your hunting instinct? On invites you and your friends to find out: on the very first On Stadtjagd.

Together with the Green Marathon Zurich as a partner, On started this unique run through the Zurich hunting grounds on May 25, 2018.

Whether as a lone wolf or in a pack with your friends - the goal is to run as many checkpoints as possible in 90 minutes.

At each checkpoint you can buy tickets, which will be put into the big lottery drum at the end. The calculation is simple: more tickets - more chances to win a prize. And even better: every hunter has a prize for sure. And of course the hunt is celebrated with BBQ and beer at the end.

Starting point of the hunters: The Breathing Room by On bei Och Sport Limmatquai, Limmatquai 78, 8001 Zürich

Meet-up time: 17:00 Uhr

Start of the hunt: 17:30 Uhr

Finish and end of the hunt: 19:00 at Bürkliplatz, 8001 Zurich, for the award ceremony and afterparty with barbecue and beer

From March 4th, there will be a series of guided jogging sessions at the Green Marathon.
Ideal to get to know the whole route!

Do you want to rediscover the city of Zurich? Come to the meeting places and join in! Run the "Jungle Run"  with the tigers, enjoy the panoramic view of the lake and mountains and get to know the urban oases from a different perspective. “Urban Zurich at its best”! The highlight is the "Lake Run"  along the shores of Lake Zurich on Sunday, May 6th. The runner community meets for a brunch after this last jogging session.

Runners of the Zurich running shoe company "On"  and the running group "Züri rännt"  skilfully lead the way. Runners of every level can run.

Participation in the jogging sessions is free.

Opening

On 21 May 2017 Green Marathon Zurich was launched and opened to the public with a big celebration. Many runners took the opportunity to be among the first to run from Rio Bar to the foot of the Uetliberg and over 250 people celebrated the new attraction on the lovely sun terrace at Atlantis by Giardino. “Everyone can run its marathon - no matter how long it will take. You can walk, hike or run the circuit, in a few hours or within a year. " says Barbara Urfer Wyss, the president of the Green Marathon Association.

The permanently signed route was opened with a ceremonial act on the starting ground at the Rio Bar, near the main station. City Council Gerold Lauber presented a greeting from the government and handed over the specially created medal to the President of the Association.  “Now Zurich has got a new tourist highlight!”  says tourism director Martin Sturzenegger. David Allemann, co-founder of the running shoe brand "On"  and main sponsor of the Green Marathon, was inspired by the idea, which his company will carry on promoting worldwide.

The route is available to all Zurich residents as well as visitors for free use.
